Kamarajar Arangam Show at Chennai on 19th May 2012

Abbas Culturals organised a show at the Kamaraj Arangam last evening, a tribute to Mohammad Rafi. Orchestra was by UK Murali. The immortal songs of Rafi were sung by Anil Bajpai, a talented singer of Rafi songs, who had been specially invited from Mumbai for this purpose. The guest singer for the evening was Chandan, from Chennai.  There were also three female singers who gave duet support and also delivered a couple of solos. A very big show, very well –attended and professionally conducted. Kamarajar Arangam is a huge auditorium, and quite the right place for such cultural shows. (more…)

Mohd Rafi Tributes

Mohd Rafi Tributes

Mudhra hosted a programme yesterday, 04.03.2012, at the Infosys Hall, Chennai. A tribute to the playback legends of the North and South. This was part of their 3 day programme of music appreciation.  http://timescity.com/chennai/events/appreciating-indian-music/23866

Such a programme is always welcome, for indeed, there are very few people who can lay claim to sing like the legends, or even represent them. Being an ardent Mohammad Rafi fan, I was delighted to be invited and thrilled that  Chandan would be representing Rafi. None better. There were other singers too. For Mukesh, for Kishore. And for Lata. And on the southern side, for TM Sounderajan, PB Srinivas, P Suseela, S Janaki. (more…)

It’s rare that a singer’s giant sized pictures are splashed on giant bill boards and hoardings three decades after his moving away from us.

Yes friends. It’s Dec 24th. The smiling picture of Badshah-E-Mausiqui Mohd Rafi Sahib looms across Mumbai Suburbs on the occasion of his 87th birth anniversary celebration which will honor ‘Chaudvin Ka Chand Ho’ composer Ravi Sahib along with another Co-singer going by the name Shailendra Singh. SJ Musical Evening

THE RAFI FOUNDATION WILL CELEBRATE THE MUSIC OF SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN and the birth anniversary  of flamboyant JAIKISHAN with a live musical function at Mumbai’s Dinanath Hall, VILE PARLE on Nov 13.

Recently there was a comment in the Face-book that SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN were lucky as they had the golden voice of  MOHD RAFI to back up their creative creations. I would venture to add the names of  Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh and Manna Dey to the list.

The foursome were the pillars of the SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN music station. Hence, wehave four singers lined up for the musical evening who will present the above legends evergreen and great songs. (more…)
