    D . P. Bijoor : rest in peace………..

we have lost a great mohd rafi saaheb fan who started the earliest fan club in mumbai in the eighties in the early passing away of dedicated rafi saaheb lover mr d p bijoor.

i used to meet mr bijoor at shamrao vithal bank, santacruz head office and after office hours have a discussion on music and rafi saaheb.

bijoor ji used to write articles on mohd rafi .com and his son also used to pen articles here.

in our last meeting i had asked him why he is not writing these days. he said : ” office me ithna time ho jaata hai , waqt hi nahi milta hai. ”

in our last meet, he was very gracious t o meet me and have a discussion on rafi saaheb over a cup of tea.

a great rafi saaheb lover has left us promting us to say : “yaad na jaaye beete dinon ki “…………..

pls also see post no 7 by bijoor ji.

rest in peace mohd rafi ardent lover.

dear alum, i had not heard of Chirag before this prog. but then i don’t watch the TV idol shows. Chirag Panchal is on facebook. I suggest u send him a message there and get an answer fm him directly!

  10. Alum says:

    Harish,
In your comment you made mention of Chirag Panchal. I had heard him in Saregama program few years ago. I was very impressed with his singing. Do you know if Chirag has produced any recordings that can be accessed? Or if any of the songs he sang can be heard on any Website?
I shall greatly appreciate your reply.
    Thanks.
    Alum

  11. Harish says:

yes, it was an awesome programme. well organised, and the song selection was a mix of hit songs and not-so-popular great songs. the compering was also good, though it looked like he was talking a bit too much (to be fair to him, i think he was talking only when the musicians were not ready and fine-tuning their instruments)

The star of the day (for me) was Chirag Panchal. He sang so effortlessly and lovingly. Prabhanjan was not very far behind. His antics were fun to watch. I thought it was not fair to ask the two ladies – Aparna and Janavika to sing with these gentlemen. These ladies have still a lots to learn.

Nandu Kerkar did a great job. Hats off to the team. I just loved the way they played ‘Dil Ke Jharoke Mein’

Thank you Binu Nair and Rafi Foundation for the show.

seen in the audience were hard core rafi bakhts like : shri sanjiv madan mohan, shri shaandar amrohi, shri nanaji bahadur, mr.bharat shah, sharad shah, mr.nitin and mr d.p.bijoor from the shamrao vithal coop bank ltd – our sponsors, mr.ravi banker and many of our members.

the music team led by shri nandu kerkar did a splendid job. a detailed report with songs, video and photographs – follows.

    Rafi Lovers:

Rafi Foundation will definitely do things a bit – differently, for the love of millions of rafi fans.

at the event on april 4 we will play some “popular” songs, some “good” songs which are less heard.
herein, i would mention two songs of rafi saaheb. this beauty is the favourite song of the divine crooner. “jaayega jab yahan se kuch bhi na saath hoga” from movie moti mahal of the fifties. the co-singer is madhubala jhaveri.
madhubala ji was present at our programme at the naushad hall event and we played the song live.
the second song is from the movie : daaera.
its sung by rafi and mubarak begum. “Devta tum ho mera Sahara, maine thama hai daaman tumhara” , tuned by flautist Jamal Sen, the father of composers dilip & samir sen.
this song too is a perenial beauty and we play it live whenever possibe.

for the love and care of the listener’s time and ears, we never intend playing some of the dead numbers which even illustrious men have failed to keep alive. we too must not “try” it is what we feel.
in short, at our events, we try to give a good mix of rare and good songs along with peppy mohd rafi numbers.

    binu nair, rafi foundation, mumbai….

    very good work

  19. Imran Rustam says:

    Dear Binu Ji,

As a founder of Rafi foundation you deserve congratulation on every such events so please accept my heartiest congratulation on this occasion. I feel happiness when Rafi Sb is being discussed and praised on any platform. Good work.

    Regards,
    -Imran-

  20. Mohammed Irfan says:

All the Best Binu ji, I echo AS Murty ji’s thoughts. There are soooo many songs of Rafi sab that deserved the same fate as the famed ones but couldn’t make it.Wonder why!!!

  21. A S MURTY says:

wishing the programme a huge success. singers should showcase lesser popular but equally great songs, instead of repeating the same sets of songs in programme after programme. some of the songs mentioned are not the regular ones in such musical events and to that extent it is praiseworthy.
