Mitter Pyare Nu…

Mohd Rafi

Mohd Rafi

I have been associated this divine voice of our beloved Mohammad Rafi Sahab since my childhood. My father was an ardent fan of the legend. The day Rafi sahib bid adieu to this world, I was an 8 years old child, and saw my father crying first time in my life. I grew up listening to Rafi sahab’s voice every now and then. I remember after my father passed away, my grand father used to stay with us.

I was preparing for my CA examinations, and I used to put on Rafi sahab’s songs while studying. My grand father would always tell me switch it off, complete my education and then go free hand with Rafi sahab. Now I do not miss a single chance of listening to Rafi sahab. As I write this email, I’m listening, “Mujhe tuney maar dala, teri bekhudi ke sadke…”, which is a super creature from the divine voice.

While I keep reading about Rafi sahab’s wonders in hindi songs, I, being a Punjabi sikh, can throw some light on the wonders that this divine creature did in Punjabi songs. Rafi sahab was himself a Punjabi, and having born in Amritsar, must have been close to Guruvani chants of Sikh literature. Rafi sahab sang beautiful songs in a lot of Punjabi films. Distinctively different are the Shabads that he sang in films like “Nanak Naam Jahaj Hai”, “Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam”, “Manjeet-e-Jagjeet”, and “Uchcha Dar Babe Nanak Da”.

Listen to the wonderful Mitter Piyyare Nu

If somebody listens to “Mitter Pyare Nu…” From “Nanak Naam Jahaj Hai”, he goes in tears for the divinity that this songs fills in him. This song is basically a poem written by Guru Govind Singh. In this poem, Guru Govind Singh is telling the winds to give his message to Supreme God. Rafi Sahab’s voice to this divine poem, takes the listener to heaven. I have been listening this song even since I gained conscious and always thank Rafi Sahab for being with us. Then there is title song from “Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam” which is a marvel.

Greatest of all the marvels is “Kaago Hans Kare…”, which is Guru Amar Dass’s vaani, and sung by our legend Rafi sahab.

May Rafi sahab, his family, his followers, his fans, and all those who ever heard his name of his voice, be blessed.

Yamla Pagla Diwana….Mohd Rafi’s remixed song pagla diwana is released this time with now 30 years after the legends demise.
mohd rafi gives the current singers a run for their money. the song is lip synched by sunny doel son of dharmendra who is a confirmed mohd rafi bakht.
watch out for this number. the current singers are way much behind….

    Brother Mahender Singh,

A very nice heart touching song mittre pyyare nu.. a wonderful song, Rafi saab always the great singer, language is no bar to this great soul. He did full justice to all songs he sang be it punjabi, hindi or any regional language songs. This song almost resembles ghazal genre.

Your write up is nice and brief.

    Mahender Saab ,
if God had any voice it would have been of Rafi Saab’s only. I am a non believer but listening to Rafi Saab is a supreme divine experience for me. Be it bhajan , gurbani or naat , to me it seems that God Himself is singing. I am sure Rafi Saab’s voice is one of the best gifts bestowed to us by heaven . My father was a great fan of rafi saab and my 8 year son loves to sing ” pukarta chala hoon main”. That’s pure rafi magic.

  16. Binu Nair says:

My sikh school friend sardar sukhdev singh confirms that mohd rafi saaheb was a great admirer of guru tegh bahadurjee and hosted every year a sikh gathering.
Sardar sukhdev singh always pay glowing tributes to mohd rafi saaheb like many of my friends from different parts of india.
once when mohd rafi came across a fan and a parsi priest in his priestly dress – immediately did he bowed in veneration.
pan india – the people loved mohd rafi saaheb. now internationally too people acknowledge him as the great ‘sage’ – singer.

Yes. Mohd Rafi is the 8th wonder of the world.

the saint singer, the number uno for three decades took rupee one in a closed envelope from many composers and producers.

last week a child of 4 years attended the rafi foundation’s shankar-jaikishan event in mumbai.
he went back home and was singing the number, ‘ dil tera diwana hai sanam”

Mahender ji….. i know of many such moving stories.
