a silky smoothed voice there will never be………rafisaab”s demise, 30 years on, has left an irreplaceable void in the industry… sonu nigam’s re-creation of rafi’s past numbers is about the only memory lefty of teh crooner..” mujhko mere baad zamaana dhundhe gaa…………..” ———-so aptly sung by him.
what a pity that his son muhammad aziz, who was a close second to his style, did not continue in the same manner.

  4. I was 4 years old and went with my elder sister to see Junglee in a Talkies in Pretoria South Africa. ever since that day I \am locked in mind and matter on the doings of the team of Rafi saab and Naushad saab.

When the King came here in South Africa and sang in the Film Trust Arena I used to worked 400 Km From there but travelled for the two show which were sung by him.

And on both occassions met his wife and Rafi Saab.

no doubt we miss both GREAT Rafi saheb and Naushad saheb. no doubt the songs composed by Naushad saheb and the songs of Rafe saheb have no match even today. What I miss most is that we do not have many video clips of him.I wish he could have lived more years.

may allah keep them in peace

‘tum mujhe u bhula na paoge’

  6. Anmol Singh says:

I recall the song “Ye Zindagi Ke Mele Duniya Mein Kam Na Honge, Afsoos Hum Na honge”. Indead today neither Rafi Saab, Naushad and Shakil Saab the one who has penned these incredible lyrics are no more. But their works will be remembered for years to come.

  8. Good article,
I wish both Naushad and Rafi had survived for many more years and contributed to the outstanding music they had created. Neither their songs have lost their relevance today nor the films have lost significance.
I have mentioned their contribution in my article in http://stationhollywood.blogspot.com

In fact when Mughal-i-azam got reprinted as a coloured film, I again heard the notable songs composed by Naushad which are still colourful.

Rafi saab lovers: Can we refrain from calling ourselves
    r a f i a n – as the legend was never a rough person.

He was sublime, passionate of his art and a perfect personality hence
the word ‘rafian’ does’nt seem to be appropriate.

can we all call ourselves : as rafi …yaar/s

  12. jayflora says:

my dad mohanflora is a die hard rafi fan-or as he wants to be called a rafian.
whenever i ask him who was better from rafi and kishore,he always says rafi by far.
here i made a video where i made him say
“I wish i could say kishore kumar was better than rafi but rafi was better.”
but then i sliced the video into parts and made a video where he says
“kishore kumar was better than rafi.”
now i tease him all the time by showing him this video.

happy birthday rafi saab and naushad saab.

Very fondly remember you though not seen you in person but you both live in my heart and rafisaab you are like an angel. Not a single day goes by without hearing to your songs.

Today I saw the channel sony tv which is about to start a singing show based on kishore kumar. This is the blatant partiallity going on since the time of rafi saab.

    I feel very sad.

I still belive justice will prevail and rafi saab will be given Bharat Ratna which rightfully belongs to him

YESTERDAY we were passing by a mosque and mr. Kakaji Joginder pal
the naushad and rafi saab ‘sevak’ stopped his car in front of the mosque
    and prayed for a minute.
I was not surprised but thought for a while about the humanly
traits of a singer and a musician. exactly the way : naushad saab
and rafi saab saw humanity and the religions.
the song and picturisation of : Man tadpat hari darshan ko…
from baiju bawra came to my mind…..

I wish my muslim brothers : a happy id and prosperous times ahead

    Credits…

Picture no 1 : Joginder kaka being introduced to dilip saab by
    legend naushad.

Picture no.2 : Joginder kaka performing Naushad saabs songs
on the occassion on naushad saabs birthday….

Mr. Joginder kaka has done ‘seva’ of naushad saaheb for 14 years
as a sevak can only do. He is a trained singer and performs
majestically on stage and he is a great rafi singer in mumbai.
He has converted his terrace about 800 square feet in to a
music hall – for the benefit of music lovers – for free…
Joginder Kakaji is a rare kind of a person, very humble and
willing to go the extra mile – for the love of music.

He will sing some great naushad saab numbers on 25th and on
24th dec in the above programmes.

  22. A S MURTY says:

One of the most wonderful occasions perhaps that on consequent days the birthdays of two great legends – RAFI SAHAB and NAUSHAD SAHAB – are being celebrated. I got the information today in the afternoon from an unexpected source from Mumbai, my akka Mrs. Savitri Babulkar (and I had thought she may not have been visiting this site). I immediately check in to find all the details. Naushad Sahab and Rafi sahab complimented one another so beautifully that rare masterpieces were created by them. Most of the movies happen to star dilip kumar and lyrics by shakeel badayuni and majrooh sultanpuri. it was as though the pair of rafi sahab and naushad sahab were ‘made for each other’. i wish the programmes on the two days all success and greetings to the organisors of the show, the rafi foundation and to the families of naushad sahab, majrooh sultanpuri sahab and rafi sahab. please report further details after the programme too. asmurty2@rediffmail.com

  23. Hussein Sheikh says:

Rafi Saheb and Naushad Saheb both were made for each other. They gave us unforgettable songs which are remembered even today. I wish both of them a very very happy birthday. We miss you.
