Mohd Rafi and Geeta Dutt

Geeta Dutt had sung over 150 duets with the great Mohammed Rafi, her highest number with any singer. Now, Mohammed Rafi, the singer-par-excellence, needs no new introduction. He was a colossus that ruled the Indian Film Music for over three decades all the way unto his untimely death in 1980. Even after his death, he was continuing to eternally rule the hearts of genuine music-lovers of successive generations. (more…)

Meri Awaaz Suno 2nd Edition

The second edition of a biography of Mohammad Rafi “Meri Aawaz Suno” hits the stands. We know Mohammad Rafi as a singer par excellence and have grown up on his songs. Rafii Saab’ songs are legend and are hummed even today after so many years. Rafiji has sung so many full length songs, i.e, mukhda and all antaras, but some times enters only in antara and has invariably stolen the show. But there are certain songs where Rafi Saab has just sung a line or two or just alaap and it is found that all such songs have become great because of Rafiji’s presence. (more…)

Khayyam and Jaidev’s relationship with Mohammad Rafi

Khayyam with Mohammad Rafi

When we visualise the golden era of music in Indian cinema we primarily think about the giant music directors like Shankar Jaikishan, Naushad, etc., or lyricists like Shakeel Badayani, Shailendra, Majrooh Sultanpuri or singers like Rafi, Lata who made major contribution to the music of that age. Among the legendary giants there were other composers who composed music for less number of films but created their identity and everlasting appeal even with the less number of compositions. Jaidev and Khayyam are two composers who received numerous awards for their classic performance and still remain few of the offbeat composers without whom the firmament of music would be colourless. Why Mohammed Rafi Deserves Bharat Ratna

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

This appeal is from all Rafi fans and members of The Rafi Foundation.

This appeal is a chorus for The Voice of the sub continent, the singer of the millennium. A fervent, passionate appeal to correct what all his legion of admirers and devotees righteously feel is a historic wrong. The mortal remains of, what the world undisputably acknowledges, of the legendary Mohammad Rafi may have bereaved us 27 years ago, but his ageless voice continues to throb and pulsate in our hearts even today.
