i was only 7 when Rafi Saab left for his heavenly abode, but remember my family members being a vivid fan of this legendry singer. & i also grew up with the same feelings for Rafi Saab…….. indeed am blessed as well to be a part of the family of Rafi Saab ( i would say all fans of Rafi Saab are a part of his own family)

the conversation can go on & on ……… but there is one thing i want to say about Rafi saab is that he a legend / a miracle of God made only once. there are no replacements to the Original Legendry & versatile Singer ….there may be copy cats or imitators using his style of singing but as there is only one Sun whcih is a source of Light providing evolution in Earth , the same way there is ONLY ONE RAFI SAAB THAT GOD HAS MADE who is a boon to the Indian Film / Music Industry & to Humanity ………….. Originals Can never be REPLACED ………….

Rafi Saab has competitors even today afert 28 years of his death ……… wherein when some singers of his time are just pampered by media attention Rafi Saab does not need any media publicity talking about his achievements , the songs rendered by him are more than enough for even a common man to understand the importance of this great Singer whose value cant be guessed by media attention or monetary benefits

Mohammad Rafi: Who wouldn’t admire him?
My friend, a nice human being and also a committed Jan Sanghi, recently said in an argument that Muhammad Rafi was one man he idolised despite his own distaste towards Muslims in his teenage years.

‘I don’t think any other Muslim has been loved, admired and heard so much in this country’, he said and I couldn’t agree more.

When we talk about Muslims who were and are role models, we hardly remember Rafi these days. The most popular playback singer ever, Rafi’s melodious voice has enchanted, enamoured and lifted the moods of millions everday for the last five decades. From 1946 to 1980 Rafi Sahab reigned over the Bombay film industry. Across the vast landscape of this country, wherever you go you will surely hear Rafi’s voice from radios at the streetside shops and homes. It is generally believed that there can never be a second Rafi. A great singer and a great human being, Rafi Sahab helped innumerable needy persons. There used to be a queue outside his house and he handed over the envelopes containing Rs 100 or Rs 200 without asking anybody’s name. He was born in 1924 in Punjab and passed away in 1980.

When he passed away, Gulzar wrote:

Ba-yaad-e-Haji Mohammad Rafee’a

Kahta hai koi
Dil gaya, Dilbar chala gaya
Sahil hai pukarta
Samandar chala gaya
Jo baat sach hai kahta nahin koi
Ki is dunia se mauseequi ka payambar chala gaya

Rafi was exemplary as a professional and human being. I think his voice is absolutely beautiful and sweeter than anything I’ve heard since after him. God rest his soul in peace.

I heard Madhuban mein radhika… the other day and I was simply stunned. What an amazing guy. Simply amazing. We want more Indians like him.

On July 29, a delegation of Sahitya Sangeet Kala Akadami met Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in this regard.

“The chief minister said he has instructed his office to strongly recommend the case of Rafi for the Bharat Ratna,” BJP MLA Babruvan Khandade told reporters on Saturday.

The Akadami members staged a two-day sit-in at Azad Maidan in Mumbai demanding that the Centre confer the ‘Bharat Ratna’ on Rafi, who died on this day in 1980.
