My hearty congratulations, Ms. Ruhi Khan, for organizing the Rafi Memorial Awards function. Please continue the good work.
From the list of songs that you mentioned were sung by Sharada on that occasion, two songs might have been sung by her, though the originals were not by her. 1.’Kahan Jaa Raha Hai Tu Ae Jaane Wale’ from Seema (old) sung poignantly by Rafii Saab and 2.Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan (Mera Naam Joker) sung by Mukesh.
Just wanted to clarify as you included these two also in “Some of her popualr songs”.

SHARDA IS LUCKY TO SING ON THE SAME STAGE WHICH GRACED THE LIKES OF RAFI SAHIB AND LATA MANGESHKAR SIMILAR TO ALISHA CHINOY WHO HAD THE CHANCE TO SING WITH KISHORE DA IN MR.INDIA
“KATE NAHI KATTEY YEH DIN YEH RAAT”.
OTHERWISE SHE HAD NOT AT ALL A GOOD VOICE AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A SMALL GIRL WITH NOT FULLY DEVELOPED NASAL CHORDS SINGING RIGHT IN FRONT OF A PROFEESOR OF SINGING.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
sharda singing with the immortal legend rafi sahib is similar to sachin tendulkar playing cricket with a street kid.
neither she knew how to sing nor she should have reached such a magnitude to sing on a stage which graced the likes of rafi sahib and lata mangeshkar.

Wonderful Mrs. Ruhi Khan for posting the anecdote of Sharada during the programme. References like this one go on show how big man Rafi Sahab was and we know he had always encouraged upcoming talent. There was absolutely no ego clash or air about him and he treated co-artistes all alike and equal. I request other knowledgeable rafians to post such anecdotes on the website, however small they may be. We relish them all. Thanks once again.

One anectedote stands out…. During the recording of my first song with Rafi Saheb, ( Jaane Chaman Shola Badan From Gumnaam ) I was very nervous and shy because I have been a big admirer of Rafi Saheb and here I was, going to sing with him. Rafi Sahab took me aside and told me to relax. Khul Ke Gao, if there is any mistake I will help you. These words gave me confidence and the song was recorded. Thereafter I have always considered Rafi Saheb as my Guru and his follow advice to sing freely. People like Rafi Saheb are divine souls and I am priviliged to have worked with him.

Mr ATM Salim, Mr A.S. Murthy, and Mr Prakash Shah for all your kind words of appreciation and encouragement. We wish to add here that in between the songs, during the programme Shardajee spoke in depth about Rafi Saheb. One anectedote stands out,

Wonderful work Mr. Hashim Khan and Mrs. Ruhi Khan. Great work indeed of honouring one of the best artistes of a generation gone by and one who had worked at close quarters with Mohd. Rafi sahab in a number of good songs, aptly listed out by you. I was also very happy that you have earlier honoured other great artistes and musicians and have plans to do a lot more with the living legends like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Jitendra etc. All the best for your endeavours and I am sure that having come thus far, you would go a long way in presenting to this new generation what they have been missing in the form of best music. Those who have contacts, particularly those of the Rafians from Mumbai and Delhi, should leave no stone unturned to help the Rafi Lovers Circle, Kolkata trying to organize such a thoughtful event. All Kudos and all the best. asmurty2@rediffmail.com

Dear Anmol,
The song mentioned by you is - accha hi hua dil toot gaya, accha hi kiya jo toone kiya, loonga/loongi na kabhi ab naam e wafaa….. This song is from the film Maa Bahen Aur Biwi, a “do pehlu” song sung by Rafi Saheb and Shardaji. The music of this film is composed by Shardaji herself. There are few non film songs’ music composed by Shardaji. rafian26@gmail.com

Sharda was lucky singing with Rafi Saheb. Her best duet is Jab bhi yeh Dil Udaas Hota Hai… from Seema is popular even today. She sang in Maa Bahen Aur Biwi as well beside providing the music of the film.

I am grateful to the entire team of mohdrafi.com for having included the event Remembering Shankar jaikishan with Sharda, which we presented recently in Kolkata. The endeavour of our Rafi Lovers Circle is to reveive the golden melodies of Rafi Saab by blending them in to various themes, each having a different hue and flavour. The Mohamed Rafi Memorial Award which we instituted in 2005, to coincide with Rafi Saab’s 25th Death Anniversary has also been conferred upon Music Director Ravi ( Yaad-E-Rafi, Shaam-E- Ravi - 2005 ), Music Director Omi ( Remembering Sonik Omi - 2006 ). Apart from this event, we also have a Down Memory Lane Series, where some of the legends of yesteryears, who have predominantly sung in the incomparable voice of Rafi Saab, have also been felicitated live on stage. So far we have been fortunate to present some of the best works of Rafi Saab with Late Pradeep Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Biswajit and Rishi Kapoor. Rishi Kapoor is on record at our show saying that indeed Rafi Saab was the finest and had he been alive today, he would probably be singing for Shahrukh Khan.
Our endeavour is to do a grand Down Memory Lane programme with Dilip Kumar, Dev Ananad, Shashi Kapoor, Joy Mukherjee, Jeetendra, Feroz Khan, Sanjay. In this regard we would appreciate if any Rafian who has a good relationship and approach with any of the above stars can help us in getting their consent. Any other suggestion will be whole heartedly welcome.

Sharda was lucky to sing with Rafi Saheb, her best duet with Rafi Saheb is Jab bhi yeh dil udaas hota hai… jaane kaun aas paas hota hai… from the movie Seema. This song is remembered even today, whereas Sharda had composed a couple of nice songs in Maa Bahen Aur Biwi, were nice.

This is a great article, thanks Ruhi Khan Ji for sharing with us.
Would like ask a question to Rafi fans whether Shaarda Ji composed music also apart from singing.
Possibly there is one film fare nomination in 1974 for Rafi Saab from the film - Maa Biwi Bahan, the song “Acha Hi Hua Tera Khilona Took Gaya” is composed by Shaarda. Not very sure whether it is the same Singer Shaarda.

bahoot bahoot shukriya Hashimji & Ruhiji for remembering her..
sharda ji was really a very good singer as well as a good music director. she had sung some memorable solos and duets also. she would have survived in bollywood much longer had there been a fare competiton .some of her duet with rafi saab and mukesh je are amazing-
jaan-e-chaman shola badan with rafi
aapki raay mere baare mein with rafi
aaya kaisa zamaana o baaba with rafi
chale jaana zara thehro with mukesh
duniya ki sair kar lo insaan ke dost mukesh
pyaar ka kar udan khatola with rafi
long live sharda jee.
