Rafi’s day

By Mr. K.S.Ramachandran

I would like to call the 31st of July as “Mohd Rafi’s day” to commemorate the great work this singing legend has done for the musical film world!

Mohd Rafi richly deserves all praises from all corners of the world and by this note, I am requesting all Indians both in India and abroad, to please do something and organize some event to promote the greatness of Rafi Sahib both as a singer and also as a well spent life as a human being, on this memorable day.

27th Death Anniversary of legendary playback singer, Mohd Rafi

Mohd Rafi sang almost all varieties of songs throughout his life and his talent and quality of voice, literally in all aspects of his vocal chord, was put to test by all the music directors and it was just but natural for Rafi to have stood ably and successfully against those challenges, everytime. He not only stood by those challenging assignments but most often, to the surprise of the music directors, even surpassed them! That was Rafi and his dedication and passion to singing. No words can express the greatness of the best qualities that Rafi possessed as a playback singer.

The sudden and quick nose-diving from the highest octave to the lowest possible note in singing was his uniqueness, which hardly any singer could dare attempt! No one can dare say that he has not understood his rendition and diction. His delivery of words was faultless and sometimes one could even learn the right pronunciation of the great Urdu words!

Long live Mohd Rafi and his works which we all should preserve as a life time treasure that GOD has given us as a boon to our musical desires and dreams…

Mohd Rafi

GEMS of Rafi

    A S MURTY Says:

The article by itself is a tribute to one of the greatest legends of the modern era and perhaps THE GREATEST among Hindi Playback singers that ruled the musical kingdom from the 1940s to the 1980s with his inimitable and melodious voice. For us RAFIANS it is a gift that our mentor has bestowed on us to be able to recall his songs, his voice, his thoughts and even his lifestyle. Those of our brethren who are still not familiar with the mystical and magical prowess that MOHD RAFI had, they are the losers. I often come across people who have not had the experience of MOHD RAFI and they sometimes laugh at our DEEWANGI. But, I am also reminded of a famous SHER by an unknown SHAYAR - CHALO ACHHA HUA KAAM AA GAYI DEEWANGI APNI, VARNA HUM ZAMANE BHAR KO SAMJHANE KAHAN JAATE.

Let us pray our tributes on this 27th Anniversary of his departure from our midst by organising meetings and singing some of his best songs, though in our limited style and capacity.

    C K Vasudevan Says:

A Singer who can croon for the comedian in one scene and lavish praise thru the Hero, on the heroine in another, enliven a duet with her in yet another scene, make us wipe a tear in a beggar’s voice and add to the crescendo of the emotions in a charater’s hitherto silent role— CAN ONLY BE THE GREATEST RAFI….Born Only Once - It is good that we had none like him because a Clone would have cast a bad shadow and false pride

    Pravin Says:

We miss you Rafi Saab..we miss you.

Thanks for making our lives worthwhile

    RAFI’S VERSATALITY

After reading the article on Rafi’s versatility, I started recollecting the various songs of Rafi in various moods. By no means, the list is exhaustive and even if I am asked to choose after some time, I may choose some more or some other songs. In fact, it is very difficult to choose Rafi’s songs “as the best song or the two best songs” as we cannot leave other songs. I have still attempted to choose some of Rafi’s gems in various moods, which highlights Rafi’s versatility, deliberately choosing only solos except for duets listed.
