Mohd Rafi

The cruel hands of destiny were indeed so very cruel to have snatched away amidst us the World’s most loved, respected, admired and sweet velvet voiced personality in the sheer form of Mohammed Rafi Sahab thirty one years ago on this fateful day. Thousands have come and vanished in thin air but alas the void created by this immortal genius is most difficult to fill in just seems probably impossible to re-create the greatness and class left behind by Rafi Sahab.

Tum jo mil gaye ho tho lagata hai ke jahan mil gaya” – the record breaking 13 to 14 minute rendition indeed justifies the sheer greatness of Rafi Sahab and yes we salute the master for such an outstanding feat.

The evergreen sweet bhajan “Mana tarpat haree darshan ko aaj” still helps us to awaken from our deep sleep daily in the mornings and “Jahan daal daal par sone kee chidiya kartee hai basera woh Bharat desh hai mera” ushers the great patriotic feeling in each and every drop of blood in our body.

Can any one of us ever carry the slightest imagination of ever forgetting Mohammed Rafi – my simple answer will be no never ever – how rightly he has said “Kyat um mujhe yoon bhula paoge”

SALUTE RAFI SIR!!!

Mohammad Rafi!!!! The King of Melody!!!! His name speaks for itself!!!! Today, back in 1980, his sublime voice silenced forever, giving answer to the last song sung by him: “Shaam phir kyun udaas hai dost”. Disharmony prevailed in the air. His death was a great loss to the world of music industry. The Government of India announced a two-day public holiday on his death, honouring him. On his death anniversary, I usually spend the day listening to his voice which takes me down the memory lane reminding me of all his soulful and sweet-sounding songs. An article in Times of India, published on 24 July 2010 sums up his voice as, “If there are 101 ways of saying “I love you” in a song, Mohammed Rafi knew them all. The awkwardness of puppy love, the friskiness of teen romance, the philosophy of unrequited love and the anguish of heartbreak – he could explore every crevice of ardour. It wasn’t just love, his voice could capture the navras of life – a failed poet’s melancholy, a fiery unionist’s vim, a debt-ridden farmer’s despair, really anybody at all. Rafi, whose career spanned nearly four decades, was a singer for every season and every reason.”

Although It’s been three decades since Md. Rafi’s left us, he is still alive in the hearts of his admirers. This reminds me of one of his very melodious songs that I would like to share with you all :

Tum mujhe yuh bhula na paoge
haan tum mujhe yuh bhula na paoge
Jab kabhi bhi sunoge geet mere
    Sanng sanng tum bhi gungunaoge
Haan tum mujhe yuh bhula na paoge
    Ho tum mujhe yuh …

after 31 year of his death, can u believe that one can still mesmerize us with his golden voice. i feel that rafi saab just record another eternal song for us when i listen one to another one. they are as new and as young for ever. his copycats are still trying(hairstylist) to surpass his shadow. but from time to time they are all going to forget and also the hairstylist will be forgotten. you can’t gain from somebody’s loss. everybody knows that these songs are only rafisaab’s songs. you can’t rub his name with your copy voice. whenever you pay tribute to your lord, than everybody respect you. when you conceive that u r a follower of rafi saab than you are forgiven, understand industry’s no.1 singer. our rafi sahab is always great and inimitable singer. he is our heartbeat.

Rafi Sahab was matchless. No one of his caliber came before him no one will come to this world in distant future. There are people who can copy him a bit but perfection will always be a casualty,

The best one I think is from Cha Cha Cha film ” wo hum na the wo tum na thi woh rahgujar thi pyar ki looti jahan pe be wajah palki bahar ki. He sang all types of song. when he sang urdu devotional song he seeemed a devout Muslim. When he sang Hindi deveotional song he seemed a real Hindu. Like wise a christian and a Sikh. Allah sshould has given a thousand years life along with his wife adn children.

Time heals as they say; It is not true with Rafi saab; After all who is he for the world to feel sorely missed? He is a magnum opus of GOD who created him and snatched him away from all of us.

Though Rafi Saab is said to have departed from this world on this very day, I believe that he moved away from the billions of eyes that could potentially see him into an equal number of hearts to live there for ever and ever. Though his visibility was lost to an ‘era’ and few generations but he departed to live in the hearts and minds of humanity for all times to come – “An Immortal Mohammad Rafi.” ‘

May Allah (Swt) bless his soul in peace and give him the cosiest place in the heavens.
