Following is an outline story about the movie and reviews from people who are impressed with Rafi Sahab’s Jaan Pehechan Ho.

Outline (imdb.com)

Ghost WorldBest friends Enid and Rebecca graduate from high school and find themselves forced to enter the real world. Enid (more than Rebecca) is a counter-culture rebel who hates this world of frauds and losers, and she subsequently has trouble getting and keeping a job. One day the girls decide to play a prank on a lonely middle-aged loser named Seymour. Their plan backfires, though, and Enid becomes a little obsessed with the man. First she feels sorry for Seymour, then he becomes something of a hero to her, and she resolves to help him at least find a girlfriend. “Maybe I just can’t stand the thought of a world where a guy like you can’t get a date,” she tells him. Meanwhile, Enid seems to be avoiding the challenge of getting her own life started.

Terry Zwigoff directs this film based on a script by Dan Clowes, who also created the original comic book. “Ghost World” attempts to be a kitsch-free, counter-culture coming-of-age film, and for the most part it succeeds. The characters are very believable, honest, and engaging.

Amazon.com Editorial Review:

The 70-year-old recordings are so original, they sound timeless. The same praise can be stated of film opener “Jaan Pehechaan Ho,” a Bollywood rarity that has elements of surf music, funk, and garage rock.

Holy obscurity Batman! Why didn’t we know about this stuff before? If you’ve seen the film, then you know the 1st track on the disc. Just having “Jaan Pehechan Ho” from the 1966 Bollywood thriller wanna-be “Gumnaam” is worth the price of the whole cd.

Mohammed Rafi was the greatest singer of the 20th century (although we have to consider Oum Kalthoum as well). And Luciano, of course. But there should be MUCH more available from this singer. In particular, the soundtrack for DOSTI, my favorite film of ALL TIME. Sorry for being so emphatic!

If you want get the feelings mixed with sad, romantic, devotional and exhilarating moods all together you should listen to this collection. ‘Beete Dinon Kee Yaad’,’O Duniya Ke Rakhawaale’ and ‘Meri Kahaani Bhulane Waale’ will immerse you in sadness, ‘Suhani Raat Dhal Chooki’ will remind the most romantic moments of your life and the sweet pain of waiting for your loved one, ‘Man Tarapat Hari Darshan’ is one of the best devotional numbers featuring the guru bhakti of the disciple, ‘Madhuban Mein Raadhika’ is one of the most exhilarating romantic numbers. Good volume to start exploring Mohammad Rafi and his golden voice.

I have bought and listened to this CD, never stopped in fact, usually I am a Van Morrison fan, or maybe Bob Dylan, but you know, this guy really does it for me, better than Jagjit or any other, on a par with Nusret Fateh Ali khan, his heart and soul is in his voice.

” THIS IS A CORRECTION” the following chords are ‘accurite’: Gm( G minor)- Bb (B flat)- Cm (C minor)- Eb (E flat)- D7 (D seventh)
THESE ARE ALL THE CHORDS YOU’LL NEED TO PLAY IT!
(As for the guitar riffs and horn lines..as follows: The guitar Riffs are based in the G minor scale….the Horns are based in the C minor scale)

PS: I transcribed this in memory of ‘Andrew Rogers’.

  5. Dave says:

I think the easiest way to play it is with a Capo on III (then the chords are: Em-Cm-Ab-G)…probably home the studio guitarist played it…as you can probably tell in the video the guitarist are doing ‘pantamime’ ..at least I think so…all three guitarist look like they are playing ‘air guitar’ and with ‘acoustics’. Not sure what guitar was used but it sounds like through a Fender tube amp with about 50% reverb /echo!

  6. Dave says:

The ‘chords’ for : “Jaan Pehechaan Ho” are as follows (Gm-Cm-Ab-G….) I haven’t figured it all out yet but the ‘guitar lead licks’ are based on the Gm and Cm scales.
