Happy Birthday Rafi Sahab (Pheeku)
This report on the birthday celebrations of Rafi Sahab in Delhi was contributed by Mr. Zorawar Chhugani.
“Baar Baar Din Yeh Aaye, Baar Baar Dil Yeh Gaye,
Tum Jiyo Hazaron Saal, Yeh Hamari Hai Aarzoo,
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday to Rafi Sahab, Happy Birthday to youâ€
These words echoed in the atmosphere when the pineapple cake with “Happy Birthday Rafi Sahab (Pheeku)†written on it was cut by the members of Rafi Foundation Memorial Society, Delhi celebrating 84th birthday of the legend.
It was about 5 in the evening when the members of orchestra started pouring in alongwith members of the foundation. The sound, the orchestra were ready within minutes for the members to start the function.
As usual, Mr. Triloki Nath, President, RFMS started the function with his magical words about Rafi Sahab and Mr. Pawan, Jt. Secy. appropriately invited Mr. Ashok (the eldest member of the foundation) to start with a number from the film Dil Ek Mandir (Jaane Wale Kabhi Nahin Aate….).
Bhanu of Chak De Shahar Di Kudiyan, Gali De Gunde fame (telecast on 9X channel) was also there in the party and rendered songs like Tujhko Pukare Mera Pyar (Neel Kamal), Deewana Hua Badal (Kashmir Ki Kali), etc. Responding to the applaud of other members for his singing, he credited Rafi Sahab for all the fame he has got.
Unusually, Mr. Pawan, an ardent fan of Rafi Sahab, sang Mukesh’s version in the song Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya accompanied by Aatima (Suman Kalyanpur version) and Zorawar Chhugani, Gen. Secy. (Mohd Rafi version).
Dr. U.K. Sadhoo was at his best with sentimental numbers like Main Yeh Sochkar Uske Dar Se Utha Tha (Haqeeqat) and Tu Mere Saamne Hai (Suhagan).
Mr. Natesan, PRO, RFMS performed a beautiful number Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalman Banega (Dhool Ka Phool).
Then after a lot of numbers followed before Mr. Ashish Kapoor, VP came on the stage (usually he stays away from the stage) to recite a poem on his mentor, Rafi Sahab and he was delighted to do so.
Mr. Ranjan Sharma was at his best with still and video photography.
I also tried to do justice to some love songs like Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (Title Song)
and Tum Jo Hue Mere Humsafar (12’O Clock).
Finally it was time to finish the party and bid adius and amigos to the ever smiling Rafi Sahab………….
