Mohammad Rafi songs are for all seasons. And to keep it alive, a few fans have formed the Rafi Foundation. Trust in IC Colony, Borivali. The pilot of the project is Binu Nair, an ex-NRI, who now devotes his time to run the trust. On December 7, a full house of music lovers were treated to some exquisite Rafi tracks at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Auditorium under the title Romantic Rafi. (more…)

From “Baazi” in 1951 to “Chargesheet” in 2011, it was an untrammeled joyride through six decades of Bollywood. It’s curtains for the ageless Dev Anand, who oversaw the growth of the Hindi film industry from the black and white era to technicolour, and leaves behind a unique legacy of a star who had moved way beyond his cinematic works.

He acted, he directed and produced… almost till the end with his last film “Chargesheet” being released this year when he was all of 88 and still raring to go, as ebullient and ageless as ever. Reviewing “Chargesheet”, a well known critic put against the rating “irrelevant”. It truly didn’t matter by then whether the film was good or bad. The much loved legend had given so much through the years that he was forgiven almost everything. (more…)

Shammi Kapoor, who romanced Bollywood beauties in the snow-capped mountains of Kashmir in films like “Kashmir Ki Kali” and “Junglee” and immortalised the shikara on the Dal Lake in the song “Tareef karun kya uski”, has finally become a part of that surrounding forever — his ashes were immersed in the lake.

The ashes of the actor, who died Aug 14, were immersed by his son Aditya Raj Kapoor Friday.

Aditya Raj was accompanied by his sister Kanchan and actors Shabana Azmi, Vinod Khanna, Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore, Poonam Dhillon, Amitabh Bachchan and Tina Ambani. (more…)

Veteran Bollywood actor and director Shammi Kapoor passed away today at the age of 79. Shammi was suffering from chronic renal failure and was admitted at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital. Born on born October 21, 1931, in a Punjabi Khatri family, Shammi was a prominent lead actor in Hindi cinema during the late 1950s and 1960s.

He was given the name Shamsher Raj Kapoor at his birth in Mumbai to film and theatre actor Prithviraj Kapoor, Shammi was the second of the three sons born to Prithviraj (the other two being Raj Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor), both of whom were, like their father, successful Bollywood actors. (more…)

Veteran actor Dev Anand remembered Mohammed Rafi on his 31st death anniversary Sunday, saying the legendary singer was one of the greatest souls.

Rafi’s death anniversary is today but he is indeed immortal and (I) always feel he is around and in our hearts n soul I admire his voice and range. Rafi a great soul very quiet and fine person,” the actor posted on micro-blogging site Twitter. (more…)
