Between 1948 and 1958, Mohammed Rafi Saab had sung over 25 memorable duets with Suraiya. Probably, the first ever Rafi-Suraiya duet was “Taron Bhari Raat Hai Par Tu Kahan” in Film:Kajal-1948, composed by Ghulam Mohammed. Patriotic songs of Mohd Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Hemanta Kumar will be sung LIVE by Rafi Centric singers along with a band of musicians from the Rafi Foundation on the occassion of Mohd Rafi’s 84th birthday celebrations on Dec.24th at Bandra’s Rafi Mansion – the late singer’s residence. Rafi lovers from different parts of the country will mark the day as National Integration Day and will hold Live Musical Shows at 12 Indian cities according to Mr.Binu Nair, founder, Rafi Foundation in Mumbai. Mohammed Rafi enthralled the followers of Indian Film music from 1944 to 1980, almost throughout remaining on top and labeled No. One Singer in the Film Industry. But there was a period from 1972 to 1976, when due to certain reasons his number of songs went down though the quality of some of his songs sung during that period remained intact, as good as at any time. The one and only shagird of our mentor Mohamed Rafi Saheb, popular Playback Singer of the Sixties and Seventies, Padamshree Mahendra Kapoor, winner of 3 Filmfare Awards, as well as the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, who shot into fame in 1958, with the chartbuster hit Aadha Hai Chandrama, Raat Aadhi ( Navrang ) was honoured posthumously with the Rafi Memorial Award 2008. Concieved, scripted and executed by Founder President Ruhi Khan, the Rafi Lovers Circle hosted a grand musical concert in memory of the noble singer, who passed away on Sept 27, 2008. (more…)
